Everything You Need to Know About Washington’s New E-Bike Rebate Program (and How 2nd Cycle Can Help!)
Big news for Washington residents: the long-awaited WE-bike rebate program officially launches this April! With over $4 million in funding available, the state is making it easier than ever to get on an electric bike (e-bike) and start riding. And 2nd Cycle is proud to be a participating bike shop in this groundbreaking program. See Images below for approved bikes you can purchase with us.
We know rebates and eligibility requirements can get confusing, so we’re here to break it all down and help you make the most of this opportunity.
🚲 What’s the E-Bike Rebate All About?
Washington State is launching the WE-Bike instant rebate program to help residents save either $300 or $1,200 on the purchase of a qualifying e-bike, bike accessories (like lights and helmets), and even maintenance plans — all in one easy transaction at a participating bike shop.
Even better? If you’re a Tacoma resident, you may also be eligible for the City of Tacoma’s E-Bike Rebate Pilot Program if you’re not selected through the state’s program.
💰 How Much is the Rebate?
• $1,200 rebate for income-qualifying applicants
• $300 rebate for all other eligible applicants
Income Guidelines for the $1,200 Rebate
If your annual household income is at or below the amounts listed below, you qualify for the $1,200 rebate:
Note: Income limits vary by county. These figures apply to Tacoma/Pierce County specifically. Residents elsewhere should check the state rebate site for county-specific details.

• Be at least 16 years old
• Live in Washington State

🛒 Where Can I Use My Rebate?
Rebates can only be used at approved bike shops across Washington (more than 100 locations!). You must use the rebate in a single purchase, but you can bundle your e-bike with accessories and service plans. Just make sure everything is on the same receipt. In Tacoma the participating shops are as follow 2nd Cycle, Opalescent Cycle, Tacoma Bike, Trek, and REI.
⚠️ FAQ – Real Talk
Do I have to pay out of pocket and wait to be reimbursed?
Nope! These are instant rebates — the discount comes off the price at checkout.
Can multiple people in my household apply?
Yes! But only one rebate per household will be awarded.
Am I guaranteed to get a rebate?
Unfortunately, no. This is a pilot program with limited funding. Applying enters you into a random drawing.
What if I don’t get picked in the state drawing?
If you’re a Tacoma resident living in an overburdened community affected by air pollution, you’ll be automatically entered into a second drawing for the City of Tacoma’s rebates.
I’m new to bikes — should I still apply?
Absolutely! The City of Tacoma will also offer free events and classes to help support new riders.
🌍 Why This Matters
This program isn’t just about bikes — it’s about climate, community, and equity. It’s funded by the Washington Climate Commitment Act (CCA), which invests in clean transportation, job creation, and healthier communities. Learn more about the CCA at climate.wa.gov.
🎓 Bonus: Want to Help with Research?
As part of the WE-Bike program, the University of Washington is conducting a research project to learn more about how people use e-bikes. You’ll have the option to opt-in during the application process.
Whether you’re looking to ditch your car, ride more for fun, or just want a boost for Tacoma’s hills — this is a rare and exciting chance to join the growing e-bike movement. Mark your calendar, get your documents ready, and let’s ride!
