Pedal Power: The Destiny Dozen Fundraiser Ride Returns to Tacoma

At 2nd Cycle Community Cycle Center, we believe in the power of pedal-driven adventures to unite communities, foster camaraderie, and support a great cause. And what better way to showcase this belief than through the exhilarating Destiny Dozen Fundraiser Ride?

The roots of the Destiny Dozen trace back to 2016(Original Face Book Event) when a passionate group of individuals, yearning to inject more excitement into Tacoma's cycling scene, came together with a vision. Inspired by the legendary Dirty Dozen event, a Pittsburgh tradition spanning over 40 years, we sought to create something equally thrilling in our own backyard.

This year, we're excited to introduce new options for participating in the Destiny Dozen:

A. Join the Fun Group: Are you looking for a laid-back, no-pressure ride where you can soak in the scenery and enjoy the camaraderie of fellow cyclists? Then the Fun Group is perfect for you! We'll maintain a relaxed pace of 10-12 MPH on flats, slowing down on uphills, ensuring a no-drop experience for all participants. It's a great way to challenge yourself without the stress of racing, and you'll have plenty of support along the way.

B. Ride with the Fast Group: If you're craving a bit more speed and intensity, our Fast Group is where you want to be. With a pace of 16-18 MPH between hills, this option is ideal for riders who thrive on pushing their limits and testing their endurance. You'll still enjoy the same camaraderie and support as the Fun Group, but with a little extra adrenaline rush as you tackle each hill with determination.

C. Explore the View Only Route: Not interested in the uphill battle but still want to be part of the action? Our View Only Route is tailor-made for spectators, supporters, and those seeking a more leisurely experience. Enjoy scenic views of Tacoma's stunning landscapes from the comfort of your bike as you follow a route that stays atop the hills. It's the perfect opportunity to cheer on riders, take in the sights, and be part of the Destiny Dozen excitement without breaking a sweat.

Whichever option you choose, you're guaranteed an unforgettable experience at the Destiny Dozen Fundraiser Ride. Read on to learn more about how you can get involved and make a difference in our community.

While the Covid-19 pandemic forced us to adapt our format temporarily, this year marks a triumphant return to the original ride format. Picture this: riders gathered in groups, setting off at a neutral pace, anticipation mounting as we approach each challenging hill. Then, with the blow of a whistle, it's game on as we race to conquer the ascent. This year, we're proud to present the best Destiny Dozen route yet. With a carefully curated selection of Tacoma's toughest hills, this year's ride promises to challenge even the most seasoned cyclists. And for the first time in Destiny Dozen history, the route extends slightly above 40 miles, with over 4000 feet of elevation gain. It's a test of endurance and determination like never before. But it's not just about the physical challenge. For years, participants have raved about the opportunity to witness Tacoma's stunning landscapes from the vantage point of each hill's summit. From panoramic views of the city to breathtaking glimpses of Puget Sound, every ascent offers a new perspective on our beautiful hometown.

To accommodate the diverse interests and abilities of our participants, we're introducing two groups this year. Whether you're a speed demon eager to test your limits or prefer a more leisurely pace, there's a spot for you at the Destiny Dozen. For a hill to officially count there is one simple rule: to count as a successful hill climb, you must pedal all the way to the top without losing elevation.

But wait, there's more! Recognizing that not everyone may be keen on conquering every hill, we've crafted a special View Only Route. This scenic tour offers a front-row seat to the action, perfect for spectators or riders seeking a less strenuous experience. Plus, it's a fantastic opportunity to cheer on fellow cyclists as they tackle the hills with grit and determination.Views Only Google Map

After the exhilarating ride, join us for the Destiny Dozen After Party from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Thanks to the generous support of Camp Colvos, we'll be serving up delicious pizza to refuel those tired muscles. And what's a party without refreshing beverages? We've got you covered there too.

As a fundraiser ride, every pedal stroke contributes to our mission of supporting 2nd Cycle and its invaluable community initiatives. And for those who prefer to keep their wheels on flatter ground, fear not! We've curated a Google Map route that stays atop the hills, ensuring you can still participate and show your support.

Join us as we pedal towards a brighter future for Tacoma's cycling community. Whether you're racing to the top, cheering from the sidelines, or simply enjoying the ride, your presence makes a difference. Together, let's make this year's Destiny Dozen the best one yet!

If you're looking for journals with a fast publication process, here are a few tips:

  1. Look for Open-Access Journals: Many open-access journals have rapid publication cycles, often because they publish online and don’t wait for issues to be filled.

  2. Check for Special Issues: Some journals expedite papers for special issues or themed topics. If your research aligns, this can speed up the process.

  3. Preprint Servers: While this isn’t formal publication, preprint servers allow you to share your research publicly while it's under peer review. Some journals support concurrent submissions to preprints.

  4. Clear Guidelines on Review Time: Many journals specify their review time on their websites. If a journal promises a review time of 1–4 weeks, they might be a good choice.

  5. Contact the Journal…

The first step in fixing a roof leak is to identify its source by looking for missing or broken shingles. To create a clean surface, clear the area of any debris. Seal minor gaps or cracks using roofing cement or sealer. If any shingles are missing, replace them by pulling out the old nails and putting in the new ones. Make sure roofing glue is applied closely to the edges to stop leaks in the future. If necessary, check the flashing around vents or chimneys and reseal.
