Reflecting on 2024 and Looking Ahead to 2025

As we step into 2025, we’re reflecting on the remarkable strides we made in 2024, a year of growth and impact guided by our 2024–2027 Strategic Plan. This plan centers on five key pillars that shaped our work:

1. Community Hub

2. Youth Empowerment and Education

3. Advocacy for Safer Cycling in Tacoma

4. Serving Under-Resourced Populations

5. Reflecting the Diversity of Tacoma

By focusing on these pillars, we were able to turn big goals into tangible outcomes, creating a stronger, more inclusive cycling community in Tacoma.

A Year of Stories and Numbers

Each number we share reflects a story of connection, empowerment, and progress:

Building a Community Hub

In 2024, 2nd Cycle became a gathering place for cyclists of all backgrounds. Over 1,289 bikes were donated to 2nd Cycle, creating opportunities for repair, reuse, and redistribution. We repaired or repurposed over 5,108 pounds of donated parts, and 5,524 used parts found new homes, keeping sustainability at the heart of our work. Through these efforts, we didn’t just fix bikes—we helped people rediscover the joy of cycling.

Empowering Tacoma’s Youth

Youth programs were a cornerstone of our year, reaching 1,384 students through initiatives like Earn-a-Bike, Bike Rodeos, and Summer Camps. These programs empowered young riders with skills, confidence, and mobility. Youth participants earned 55 bikes, learning the value of effort and achievement while gaining access to reliable transportation.

Advocacy and Events

Our mission to create a safer and more connected cycling community came to life through events and advocacy. With 47 events hosted in our shop and classroom, over 900 participants joined us for all-ages activities, proving that cycling truly is for everyone.

Supporting Under-Resourced Populations

Through programs like Pedals 4 the People, we provided essential transportation to those who needed it most, donating 14 bikes and covering 304 repairs at no cost. These efforts helped individuals access work, school, and community life.

Sustainability Through Recycling

Our commitment to reducing waste was evident in the 21,600 pounds of metal recycled this year. By repairing and reusing, we kept countless items out of landfills, proving that cycling can be a force for environmental good.

Volunteer Power

None of this would have been possible without the dedication of our volunteers. This year, 65 volunteers gave over 1,021 hours of their time, strengthening our programs and shop operations.

Thank You for an Incredible Year

These achievements are a direct result of the collective efforts of our team, our supporters, and our incredible partners. Together, we turned our strategic vision into a reality, building a cycling community that’s stronger, more inclusive, and better equipped to thrive in 2025 and beyond.

This version highlights the numbers but connects them to stories and the pillars, making the data more engaging and meaningful. Let me know what you think!

Partnerships That Made It Possible

Our 2024 accomplishments wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support of our partners.
